Eduardo Salcedo-Albarán and Luis Jorge Garay at the forum Mexico: Security Without War

Last March 6th and 7th, 2017, Vortex Foundation participated in the Forum Mexico: Security without War. In the event, scholars and activists reflected the diversity on the approaches for understanding the violence partially generated by the militarized strategy against organized crime in Mexico. Luis Jorge Garay, our Chief Scientific, and Eduardo Salcedo- Albarán, our CEO, highlighted the need of understanding the humanitarian impacts of the Mexican conflict, and the complex illicit networks that have detonated a dangerous scenario for the Mexican vulnerable population.

Here one of the conclusions of the Forum:

"Mapping local criminal markets will give us the capacity to understand what we are risking on the international system with the pragmatic confrontation of organized crime and war on drugs. [...] We know that if we look closely to the more than 180 homicides, 250 displaced people, and more of 30 thousand missing people, that are affecting mostly young and women, we will have the inputs to think about the complexity of macro-victimization networks, fueled by the war in Mexico." The Mexican Times published an article reviewing the topics and interventions that took place at the forum. To read the entire article, click HERE.
