Workshop: "Illicit networks, corruption, and State"

The aim of the concepts and methodologies developed by Vortex Foundation is to change the approach that public institutions, among others, have about how criminal networks operate. In the long term, an innovative and more comprehensive approach would imply new and more adequate solutions to face criminal complexity, and therefore, to have more effective institutions and public servants.
In the path of sharing the concepts and methodologies of analysis, our Director, Eduardo Salcedo-Albarán and our Scientific Director, Luis Jorge Garay, have designed workshops and seminaries oriented to prosecutors and other stakeholders interested in understanding and applying the approach of criminal networks analysis.
The 6th, 7th and 8th of July, 2016, Eduardo Salcedo-Albarán and Luis Jorge Garay lead a workshop entitled “Illicit networks, corruption, and State”, organized jointly by the USAID and the Public Ministry of Guatemala.
The first day there was a conference focused on the conceptual and methodological frameworks proposed by Vortex. The second day, some specific study cases that use the Social Network Analysis approach, were explained. Finally, the last day, the participants of the seminar were divided in groups, by themes and cases, presente their own analysis, based on the discussed concepts. Each group receiving feedback from the experts.
At Vortex Foundation, we are willing to continue establishing cooperation associations with private and public organizations and institutions, to promote concepts to confront the complex criminal networks that affect various Latin American countries.
