Last March 1st was held in Bogotá, Colombia, the international symposium "Global Pact for the Environment" [Pacto Mundial para el Medio Ambiente], with more than 40scholars, prosecutors, high dignitaries, journalists, leaders of civil society and experts on environmental issues.

The symposium was organized by theNational General Attorney's Office, theChamber of Commerce of Bogotá, theColumbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI) and the Sustainable Development Solutions Networks. The symposium follows the launch of the Global Pact for the Environment by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the diplomatic efforts for the Pact at the United Nations General Assembly in 2017.

Our Scientific Director, Luis Jorge Garay Salamanca, participated in the panel: "A world united for the environment", discussing about governance and environment.

Luis Jorge stated the need of establishing basic legislative principles, with binding force in each country, to execute the Global Pact. To establish those principles Garay proposes discussing two relevant concepts: sustainable development and socio-ecological justice. To confront environmental crisis and climate change it is critical to understand that environmental and social issues are intrinsically interconnected.
